Summer Camp

I'm organizing a high school wrestling day camp this August, and I designed the information flier all by myself. You can see it, in PDF form, here.

The real trick...

...when posting pictures of myself anywhere on the internet is picking the ones that don't show off how much hair I've lost.

Just thought you'd like to know that.

Takedown Distribution

In order to improve my coaching focus for the upcoming season, I watched the Wheaton Wrestling Highlight Video that I put together a few weeks ago and recorded the type and frequency of each offensive takedown. I figure, working with what I have is easier than reinventing the wheel. Then I made a nifty chart that shows which takedowns were most frequent, which were done by the most people, and who did what. You can see the chart below. Notice that the low single was most prevalent, though only done by two people. The move with the most different scorers was a simple straight single, which to me is evidence of where our focus should be next year.

Site Blocked

So I'm sitting here in Panera waiting for my car to be serviced (not at Panera, at the dealer), and I get this message when I head to Kathi's blog.

The SonicWALL Content Filter Has Blocked this site.
If you feel this site has been blocked in error,
Please submit a URL Rating Review at:

URL: http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=Grace_glides_on_blistered_feet

Reason for restriction: Forbidden Category ""

I mean, I suppose people might offended at the current "All Wedding All the Time" format, but I'm not sure it warrants censoring on the Panera wifi connection.

Blogging the Bible

David Plotz is a writer for the online magazine Slate. He has begun this week to "blog the Bible." As a Jew, he grew up learning about it, but he admits he knows less of it than he should, so he's starting from the beginning and he'll be posting his thoughts on each passage on Slate. He is not out to prove or disprove anything, and he openly welcomes challenges or alternate interpretations to his questions. It's been an interesting read so far, as he's 19 chapters into Genesis. Here is the article where he explains himself. Here is his first installment from Creation to the Flood. Finally, here is the latest installment up through Genesis 19. Check it out.

New Website

This one isn't going away, and will continue to fill the Andy-shaped hole in your heart. However, as previously promised, I'm trying to get into some private wrestling tutoring, and that website is now live. Check out andyvogel.striderwrestling.com to see what I'm talking about, and if you know anyone in the Chicago area interested in this sort of thing, point them my way.

The Stuff of Nightmares

Stumbled across this Wikipedia entry in my surfing today. Scary stuff. I guess I always hoped this sort of thing didn't exist....0.1mL!!! In August of 1996, Karen Wetterhahn accidentally got a drop of it on her gloved hand while working in the lab. She was dead by June.

Just a quick video of my signature move. If you've watched the others, you've seen it already, but if not, this one's only 90 seconds.

Private Tutoring

I'm going to try to get into private wrestling tutoring starting this summer and fall. If I can get a few students, it will be a good income supplement, and I believe there is a market for it in the area. How else would you explain this? Anyhow, I'm hoping to get some business cards printed up, and I've begun work on a website. The template I'm using can be seen here, and I'll post and link here when the actual site is up and running.
