Because I Can

I ate a Snickers bar on the way home from work today. Why? Because I'm a grown up and I can.

Quick poll, what's your favorite candy bar? Mine's Snickers. Leave your answer in the comments section.

New Career for James

This guy has nothing on Captain Jimmy.

Hurricane Katrina

Like this is a new thing. I've lived with Hurricane Katrina since 1982.

So, eventually, I'll start posting some blog entries from the journal I kept during the trip. Maybe I'm still decompressing, or maybe I can't read my own writing. Maybe both.

Janet Quote of the Day

"I tell you what, not having to pay for heat almost feels like stealing!"

Partial Photo Set

Go Here to see some of the photos we took in Eastern Europe. My Flickr account is free, but it has a monthly upload limit. I'll add more pictures once this month is over. If you want to make a print of a photo for some reason, just let me know, and I'll email you the full size version. The pictures that have been uploaded so far are from Berlin, Germany; Poznan, Poland; and Bydgoszcz, Poland. The rest of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia will be forthcoming.

Home Again

We made it back to the States in one piece and with all our luggage!

Crash!

The bus driver missed his turn on the way back to Riga, so he slammed on the brakes and then tried to turn. However, he was turning to the outside of a car in the opposite lane. The car started to back up, but not before the bus slid up against it, making a nice 15 foot scrape on the side of the bus. It was one of the worst displays of driving I've seen in a while. Luckily, the two hour delay didn't cause us to miss our flight, as we're here at the Riga airport with time to spare. We fly to Berlin, stay the night, and then fly back to JFK tomorrow and put an end to a rewarding, tiring, frustrating, fun, all of the above 18 day whirlwind trip through Europe.

Eagerly in Estonia

The food is good, the bathrooms are clean, and the people are nice. Almost makes me forget the dorm of doom back in Bydgoszcz, but not quite. I will never forget. We have been in a country suburb of the capital, but we are going into town later today. Hopefully, the two guys who tried to get to Finland will make it back OK.

Living it up in Latvia

We're in Latvia for tonight, and then it's on to Estonia. The end of the trip is fast approaching, and it's been a good time, minus a few organizational hiccups. Riga is the most western of the cities we've visited, minus Berlin of course, so it's been good to see a bit of the biggest city in the Baltics. One thing I've learned is that I'll never take drinking fountains or free bathrooms for granted again.

Gdansk taxi nightmare

We had a scary taxi ride at near the speed of sound last night, but we made it back alive. This hotel at least has clean toilets, unlike the dorm we stayed at in Bydgoszcz. Our zlotys are holding up, and tomorrow we head to Lithuania. Our trip is halfway done, and no one has yet been robbed. Keep your fingers crossed.

I don't speak Polish

...but I've survived so far. We actually get to wrestle today, which should be fun.

Blogging Berlin

The trip has been good so far. Lots of good pictures and the obligatory European rainy day. We are headed to Poland tonight. I hate that this keyboard has the y and z switched.
